This morning the whole family headed to Fort Langley for the Remembrance Day ceremony. Usually we have gone to Aldergrove where the cenotaph is outside the Legion.
The ceremony in Fort Langley is held at the cenotaph, which is in the cemetery. There was a big crowd of all ages, as well as a lot of well behaved dogs. I didn't hear a single bark.

We were stood next to the little iron railing. It was a cool and gray day, but the rain held off. Appropriate weather for Remembrance Day I think. I always feel so sad during the ceremony.
The cemetery is next to the main road running through Fort Langley. I wonder if the people driving by while the ceremony is on, and especially while most people's heads are bowed during the two minutes of silence, feel guilty for not taking two minutes out of their busy lives in respect for those who have made the ultimate sacrifice.
Perhaps they do in a different way. I closed my office door today and took a few minutes to give thanks and remember those who have fallen for my freedoms.

I guess I should have explained that a little better. I do hope everyone takes a few moments to honour those that are gone.
ReplyDeleteOf course it doesn't have to be at a Remembrance Day ceremony. Our son was playing soccer on Nov. 11 one year. Before the game his coach asked the referee to stop the game about 11, and all the boys stopped for two minutes of silence.
And if you're driving, you can always pull over somewhere for a minute or two.
It looks like a lovely ceremony..with a flyover too..it is a very important day for us all..I do not think it gets the attention it deserves..but I was an Air Force wife for 26 years..and I know the sacrifices that military families have to make:(

How cool was that! Good for the coach. All of my family is Military. That;s one thing we have here in So. Cal....fields of "wild" poppies.
