Cirque du So-lug

Here's a leopard slug that was on the inside of the rim of the compost bin this morning.
I'm not picking it up with my bare hands.  I did read though that they do eat other slugs.  Maybe I should introduce it to the slugs that are still hanging out around the dahlias, although finally, most of the dahlias are winning the battle.

And the rather gross seeming leopard slug can also be totally fascinating.
You've got to watch this video.

All I can think of though, is running face first into that down a dark trail one night:(

  1. Okay..I am sitting here at 4am totally grossed out. OMG..Their male organs come out from behind their heads and then grow into huge plasma like things while they twirl off a string of slime. I'm going to have nightmares...EEEWWWWWEEEWWWEEEWWW..trying to think of bunnies and kittens right now!

  2. That has to be one of the most bizarre things I've ever seen! I'm with you, no running through the forest at night for fear of being totally slimed! :O

    Waggin at ya,

  3. Isn't nature intersting. Weird stuff like this is going on all over as I type this. :0)

  4. Wonder if it tastes like chicken? Sure is purrrty

  5. Loved the created blog title.
    Richard has done it again!!!
Something actually beautiful in the manifestation of an usual seen as ugly!

  6. I learn something new everyday..the mating of Leopard Slugs was high on my list...thanks! I will watch for the slime at night:)
