We used to hire a chimney sweep, using the same company each year. They started sending new guys that really didn't know what they were doing. Then we had to put a round metal liner down the chimney for insurance purposes, and you could buy the brush and pole extensions for less than paying for one cleaning, so we started doing it ourselves.
