Lunch

We have some enormous cabbages.  They came from the nursery as tiny seedlings, and the tag just said 'early cabbage'.  They are supposed to get a conical shaped head.   They are lovely healthy looking plants, but there isn't much sign of a head forming yet.

The leaves are huge, and look so nice.

So I picked two off, and with a few more ingredients, which didn't include the peonies...
we had ourselves a lunch.

Everything sliced up, and sauteed in some olive oil.

Parmesan cheese sprinkled on near the end, and a lid put over it for a few minutes.
Delicious!

  1. Looks good to me, but if I made this for my husband he would fire me from cooking..he has never liked cabbage in any shape or form. Luna is such a good helper! :)

  2. I was talking to some friends at work the other day and I thought of you. They were talking about how the best way to get rid of slugs in the garden is to put out cups of beer among the plants. One of my friends burries the cups a bit, but the other one just puts out dixie cups. Any cheap beer works fine. They will climb in, but not be able to get out. As one friend stated,"It's ok because they die a happy drunken death." :)

Yes, we use beer to control our slug also. But don't give them the good stuff!

  7. Yummy! Our cabbage looks just like that - all leaves. Of course the slugs have been feasting on ours so they are not as pretty as yours. I didn't know you could eat that part of the plant. I always thought you could only eat the head of cabbage. I'm sure if I had learned to cook when I was young I would know this stuff! LOL.
